My Beauty Blog: From Eyes, Lips Face beauty blog: January 12, 2010 http://www.eyeslipsface.com/
I love smoky eye makeup, but even us professionals have allowed misdirected dark eyeshadow to cascade down to the cheek and under-eye area. This can be a real bummer if you’ve already applied foundation and concealer. We are faced with all bad options to remove the specks of dark pigment and mascara globs ruining our makeup design. Well good news! Along comes a nifty solution by creator/owner Michelle Villanueva, called Shadow Shields. Hailed as The Best New Find of 2009, these light-weight disposable little half-moon pads attach under the eye with a peel off adhesive edge, and form a “tray” to catch falling makeup residue. I love being hands free to apply the shadow while, the adhesive backing stays put under the eye. Yet the adhesive backing is gentle enough to be good for sensitive skin around the eyes. Shadow Shields are perfect for all makeup applications for the real woman struggling to hold a makeup brush and mirror in her hands, professional bridal makeup, airbrush, special event and prom makeup, plus lash tinting and extensions! Even quick touch ups are hassle free! Like I’ve always said, your makeup sponge is your friend and now so is Shadow Shields! Shadow Shields come in a box of 30 for $9.95 and can be purchased at several makeup sites and stores, including their own site where you can follow a video on its application at shadowshields.com
It has been interesting researching the 2009 fall fashion and beauty trends. The makeup colors and application are all over the place. Standard rules are broken, new rules apply. Things are changing up. Smoky eyes and soft lips, bright lips and soft eyes are still popular. New excitement this fall comes with the 80’s decade, celebrating a revival with wide padded shoulders, bold eyes cheeks, and lips. Soft, neutral shaded eyes with lots of black mascara, extended black eyeliner and deep red lips bring back the retro style of the 30’s through 50’s. The photos lining Sephora store windows show, 60’s mod, and hippy looks (thanks to Woodstock revival), Audrey Hepburn 50’s beauty. Donna Karan’s Fall 2009 shows a take off of the 30’s with a sepia face…soft and sienna.
Lipsticks I’m buying are dark purple-brown, to red and soft beige. Many are modernized with tints rather than cream or matte textures. So it seems this fall into winter anything goes so have fun and just make sure it looks good on you rather than making yourself a carbon copy of a runway model or advertisement.. on the other hand.. what the hell. Go for it.
LORAC In this sweet purple faux alligator clutch lays the Secrets of a Hollywood Starlet Collection,
an exclusive at Ulta stores nationwide. Makeup artist Carol Shaw knows which products work well under lights, and long hours. Her choice in this exclusive collection is perfect, and beautifully put together. Love, love, love the mascara Lotsa Lash Fiber Mascara in black. It goes on easily, the brush is just the right size for anyone’s lashes, doesn’t clump and gives lashes a full voluptuous look. The Starry-Eyed Baked Eye Shadow Trio in Starlette, really goes on well and stays on. Finish the look with Baked Matte Satin Blush in Velvet Rope, and Couture Shine Liquid Lipstick in Glam and you are ready for any Red Carpet Evening in or out.. Not in the kit, but certainly in my book a winner is Front of the Line Pro Eyeliner The liner brush easily draws the perfect eyeline. Just used this on a photo shoot, the Velvet Rope blush photographed beautifully and the eyeliner was oh, so easy to apply on the model. At Ulta
I tried Mederma Gel on my knee scar this past month. If you are diligent with application, new scars, (apply 3-4 times a day for 8 weeks) show results quicker than older scars, (apply 3-4 times a day for 3-6 months) and you will get good results. My thanks to the Mederma people for taking on my challenge to render scars softer and faded. at stores $15 - $30
I always like to plug new products. Just got to know a newer company Lipstick Queen. Two outstanding products are Medieval Tinted Treatment a vitamin E base with enough pigment to give you the just bitten look. Designed in one shade that works will all skin tones. The next gem is a fat pencil that goes on as gloss. I love the color Thriller, a moisturizing scarlet shade,
which is perfect for retro looks. Inspired by the movie, Chinatown – Glossy Pencils come with a fat pencil sharpener to keep that puppy the right shape for drawing in your lips. Thriller is a bit peppier than Medieval and a bit brighter. The pencils come in 4 sheer gloss shades with the “genre” names like Crime,(hot pink) Mystery (vibrant purple) and Chase (sheer watermelon) .. You’ll want them all.
Urban Decay
Lots of new products to their Fall Collection. First Deluxe Eyeshadows in 3 new shades. Freakshow (purple w/red sheen) Ruthless, (neutral champagne) and Frigid (purple w/blue sheen). All in an artfully designed mirrored compact. These color rich formulas are velvet to the touch and go on like silk. And they stay on without creasing! $18 at Sephora.com.
Lipstick shades run the gamut from dark to naturally light. Relaunched for fall is Oil Slick, not so Goth, this
time it’s fused with microsparkle, Confession, a deep burgundy, and on the opposite scale is Naked, a creamy pink nude to go with their best selling gloss Naked XXX.
Add Urban Decay moisturizing Lip Primer with Peptide Complex to make lips appear fuller, SPF15 for protection, Vitamins A – E for smooth lip color application.
One of my favorite Urban Decay products in the Fall Collection is Ink for Eyes, a terrific cream eye liner. In 5 shades of
black infused with some color like Binge, (blue/black), Loaded (green/black) and Empire (purple/black) The standard shades are Zero, a rich black, Demolition a rich brown and Pyrotechnics (an iridescent cream liner to jazz up the rich deep shades with some sparkle. The liners come in nicely sized mirrored gunmetal compacts with a double-sided brush.
There are two new primers to brighten and de-emphasize pores and tiny wrinkles. Each does a slightly different job but can work well on most types of skin. I’ve got the Pore Perfecting. Ever try the test to see what a primer actually does? It was shown to me many years ago at the department store in LA. Put a stripe of primer on your hand. Follow with foundation over the stripe and next to that where you left the
top of the hand bare. The difference is how your face will look with and without primer.. and there IS A DIFFERENCE! The best $30 you’ll spend. Sephora.com, Ulta and department stores. Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup.. 4 shades of darker bone looks with no talc, artificial dyes or fragrance. Perfect for all skin
types including sensitive skin. Main ingredient Titanium Dioxide. Finally a semi-matte finish. No metallic look! An outrageous puff is attached to the jar. You twist the jar to “open” and turn over the jar dispensing the bronzer to the puff.. puff on then buff for a soft tan look.. Great for men too! There is more in the collection .. so check it out online at Sephora.com, Urban Decay.com, Ulta, or test it out in the stores..
Pur Minerals Fall
Collection Slate Mineral eye shadows warmed with pink undertone, cooled with a hint of green, deep green shadow that shimmer in the light. And a super mascara. I love the look and feel of these shadows. The shadows “Midnight Jade, Champagne Citrine, Burgundy Malachite and Chrome Cryolite go on smooth, almost creamy. You can apply it with a badger or sable hair, or for a more opaque result, a sponge tip applicator. For a smoky look, rub a little of the darker shades along the lash line and the Champagne Citrine from mid lid to brow bone.. The 80’s look, line both upper and lower lids. Retro style would be lining only the top lid. The mascara is some of the best I’ve tested with a medium size brush wand to get all the lashes evenly covered.
More to the look is Mineral Shea Butter Lipstick in sheer Zircon, Mineral Lip and Eye Pencil, Pressed Mineral Makeup at Ulta, Dillards, www.purminerals.com, or The Plaza Beauty by Warren-Tricomi
Sumptuous Color Bold Volume™ Lifting Mascara by Estée Lauder is fun for any occasion. The vibrant colors looks fabulous on with contrast shadow and liner colors or keeping the look monotone to go bold. The gel mascara lifts, and plumps lashes to look fuller and beautifully curled without the use of a lash curler. Here's some interesting info from Lauder PR about what makes Bold Volume Mascara so special.
The formula’s mousse-like, jellified suspension system utilizes “swollen” water to gently and lightly suspend the ingredients, allowing the use of less wax to add dramatic volume and lifting. Adding to the exceptionally light base are ultra-light, lash thickening, “Y”-shaped Micro-Lock
fibers that reinforce the volume enhancing, airy properties of the formula. These innovative nylon fibers interlock and stack together to create a pillow-like cushion around each lash, filling in even the sparsest of lashes and deli
vering glamorously rich volume and lift. The fibers are
blended with Tack-Flex polymers that have the ability to quickly coat lashes from root to tip keeping lashes, light and flexible while adding exaggerated volume and weightless lift. All the volume without clumping!
There is an exclusive "brushcomber" double bristle brush to both add volume and separate the lashes.. this is fun!
And more from Estée Lauder is Double Wear Lipstick and Lip Pencil. The colors are pretty, some soft, some bright like Stay Mauve and Stay Scarlet. These Double Wear additions are meant to stay on up to 12 hours. Give them a try. I love the idea of a Double Wear lip pencil and have been hoping one of the companies would come out with it. The end of lipstick bleeding up into lip lines..
Sig
nature 5-Tone Shimmer Powder for Eyes, Cheeks and Face .. a soft shimmer powder for everywhere and anywhere.. This compact is a mix of color both in Pink and Warm Bronze. use it with a fan brush and enjoy the experience. To complement the powder, Lauder has brought out Signature Eye Shadow Quad Collections in Rose Gold and Rose Amethyst.
These are soft, subtle eye shadows that look pretty without making a bold statement.. Don't get me wrong, though. There is strength in the bottom darker
shades. They deepen the eye where you apply it. The upper 2 shades are your high-light and mid tones. You can always dampen the applicator for use as a more opaque liner. I'm leaning towards the Amethyst palette because of the bronze undertones. the Lip Gloss and Lip Sticks that make up the collection are luscious and the nail polish especially the deep purple (almost black) is divine.
The vote is still out on LASHFOOD Eyelash Conditioner. The manufacturer claims your lashes will be thicker, longer and darker without harsh chemical ingredients. Everything is natural with 16 types of herb extracts and essential vitamins. Hmmm... How do they do that? I'm comfortably using it twice a day, for both lashes and brows without the concern of applying glaucoma medication ingredients on my healthy eyeline. Like the other lash conditioner/thickeners on the market, it goes on like clear eyeliner and brow gel. There are several lash conditioners/growers out now and LashFood is one the many priced at approximately $120. They do have a return policy, so check it out and keep your receipt if you aren't satisfied after 60 days use. http://www.lashfood.com
I'm totally in love with Too Faced Natural Eye Shadow Collection.
The shades can be used by everyone. In the box housing the shadows are application cards that instruct 3 separate "looks" Day, Classic and Fashion. The neutral shadow shades, some matte, some shimmer, one sparkle (Nude Beach). The bronze/pink lighter shades are soft and lovely, the darker browns Erotica, Cocoa Puff and Sexspresso are rich and work well around the outside line of the eye and the crease. A hidden drawer pulls out with a decent double ended applicator. The spongetip will give you more opaque coverage, and the angled brush is perfect for lining.. Have fun, this is worth the money. At Ulta and at Sephora.com, Check out all of Sephora’s irresistible Weekly Offers!
Smashbox Cosmetics Reign Collection is gorgeous!
From first look at the leather compact you know you are in for royal beauty. The two eye shadow palettes offer “Majesty” both matte and Shimmery Champagne, Cabernet and Black and my favorite three shadows offered are matte and shimmery Soft Gold, Copper and Deep Brown. In the collection is Reign Lash DNA Mascara (see luscious banner ad) in a deep plum with a new brush wand that colors every lash. Double Lip Pencil, Reign Gloss and Reign Fusion Blush complete the collection.

Neroli Rose Whoa.. just read that we apply an average of 80 synthetic ingredients to our face and bodies unaware that the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t review safety of cosmetics. Enter Neroli Rose www.nerolirose.com, a new skincare company. Their line is 100% all natural Shea butter and essential oil products. Guinot Institute Paris introduces Crème Red Logic to help reduce the appearance of redness and irritation on the skin. I only got to try a little, however it felt nice on application. Crème Red Logic strengthens the epidermis using a process called Veinoderm, containing anti-redness ingredients like Aloe Vera,Calendula, Arnica Extract and toning Esculoside. According to Guinot, your skin will feel refreshed and revitalized with a reduction of redness. At a decent price of $40 for a tube, it's worth giving it a try.
I’ve written about Mally Beauty before. She’s a vivacious makeup artist still working in the business and constantly surprising us with different types of makeup textures and applications. Adding to her 24/7 Collection is the 24/7 Eye Shadow System.
With its two-step kit, housed in a nifty little compartmental makeup clutch, you’ll have all you need for a creaseless, long wearing shadow. Start with Perfecting Eye Base, a colorless, non-greasy primer pencil that you stroke across the lid and into the crease. You can also use it under the lower lashes to help bond with the shadow and result in perfectly opaque color that lasts. The 24/7 Eye Shadow, a triple- milled pigment that is rich when used with the Primer. I tried the shadow alone with a dry and damp brush and the results are best with the pencil. Available in Shimmering Beige, Shimmering Plum and Matte Brown. $30 www.mallybeauty.com, Henry Bendels & QVC
Instant Erase Quick Concealer with it’s own powder to set. Very handy and small enough to carry
with you for touch ups (love the sheer powder than never sinks into eyelines and sets the makeup leaving a smooth surface and Dual Action Makeup Remover. This great acting makeup remover cleans up even long wearing makeup.
New Mally Liquid Light Eyecolor.
This is something I haven’t seen in the market before. You shake a little of the powder from the container base into the cap. Swish a brush full from the cap and apply. It will have a cooling effect and then turns into a liquid wash that is totally bendable and instantly dries back to a powder. I tested the plum and the brown colors. The brown I wore last night with Mally EverColor Starlight Waterproof Pencil in Midnight. The brown is more like a shimmery bronze and the black liner pencil is deep and rich. After several hours, the shadow and liner were perfect. Never moved, smudged or faded. The shadow comes with a decent double sided brush one side fuller for the lid and the other smaller for eyeliner.
A few more items from Mally that are noteworthy are the High Shine Liquid Lipstick
in a “click system” applicator brush. The lipstick gives full coverage with the shine of a gloss. All Mally Beauty products are available at qvc.com and many are sold at mallybeauty.com and Henri Bendel
Lots more to come so keep coming back..
