This is your special day. It should and will be perfect. You've made plenty of check lists, reservations, and decisions. Now, let's go over how your makeup will look.

Using a professional makeup artist puts your entire bridal party in excellent hands. Relaxed with just one less thing to stress about. Plus all the wedding party makeup will be more uniformed and look better photographically.

What you'll need on the big day if you're doing your own makeup

  1. Lightweight moisturizer or pre-makeup cream/gel.

  2. Eye cream or gel (refrigerate during the summer)

  3. illuminating cream or lotion for face and body

  4. foundation that matches your skin tone

  5. concealer both undereye and dryer, more pigmented cover-up for red, brown spots and blemishes

  6. Pressed translucent powder to set your makeup and touch ups

  7. Tear-proof mascara (water resistant or waterproof)

  8. Blush (powder, gel, liquid or cream) in a soft pink, coral or brown pink.

  9. Lip Pencil (in a beige pink tone, and fill in the entire lip)

  10. Lipstick (pinks, mauves, corals, brown pinks)

  11. Lip Gloss applied to lower lip (can have some shimmer, with gold, silver, pink, lavender, coral undertone)

  12. Eye Shadows (mauve, bronze, pink, ivory, taupe)

  13. Eye liner, powder or pencil in brown, mauve or navy (You can apply a pencil first and then set with corresponding eyeshadow layered on top)

  14. oil blotters (for you and your groom)

  15. sponges, puff, Q.' tips, tissue, makeup brushes

Touch ups:

Here's what you'll want to have on-hand in the brides room

  1. Lipstick, liner and gloss

  2. Tips for clean up

  3. Eye-makeup remover

  4. Blush

  5. Concealer

  6. Pressed Powder

  7. Travel size hair spray

  8. Extra bobbi pins

The day of your wedding, if you are using a professional makeup artist who normally, works with photographers all you'll need to do once the makeup artist is done is have pressed translucent powder, lipstick, gloss and blotting papers for your purse.

Have a tattoo to cover? Make sure your makeup artist works with special airbrush makeup that stays on and won't rub off. Regular foundation will NOT do the trick.

Your Beauty Regime

Start: Plan in advance. Use professional makeup artists if you can. If you are not used to wearing makeup, that's OK, you can be minimal and finished looking for your photographs. The important thing is to look like yourself with a beautiful glow, soft colors and just pinched cheeks. Stay away from trendy makeup, remember you have to look at and love these photographs 20 years from now.

Use 8 hour lipstick that will stay on until you take it off. All you'll need is the gloss stick.

Go to the makeup counters and test out colors. Months ahead of the wedding have the counter makeup artists show you makeup and walk out into the natural light. Don't go overboard. You don't need that much more makeup for the photographs. If you are having your makeup professionally done, make an appointment for a trial run (the same with your hair)

Discuss with the makeup artist how you want to look. Go for a classic beauty makeup instead of something trendy that will be outdated next year. Bring photographs of looks you like with you. Remember the word "natural" can be interpreted differently by individuals. Invite the rest of your bridal party to also follow these rules of thumb. Not to take away from individuality, but the pictures look that much nicer when one particular makeup or hairstyle doesn't overstate another. Men tend to glow too. Before the photography, give your groom and the other male members of the wedding party some oil blotting papers to press into their t-zone area (forehead, nose and cheeks).

1 month ahead:

If you are thinking of perming your hair, give yourself enough time to "fix" anything that might not turn out as you wanted.

Practice good nutrition and exercise for stress relief if you don't already

Timing for the makeup by a professional should be at least 45 minutes for the bride and 20-30 minutes for the additional bridal party. It is important that all receive professional makeup application so look is uniform (just like picking the color scheme and dresses) for the photos. I like to do the bride's makeup 2nd to last so I can see her then in her dress, if any body makeup or touch ups need to be done before she walks out the door and down the aisle.
